Laura Sutherland: I have recently retired from more than thirty years working as a registered nurse. I have very much enjoyed my transition to a more hi-touch and less hi-tech form of health care. Doing massage satisfies all the reasons I became a nurse in the first place! |
I have really enjoyed going from the hi-tech world of an ICU to the more high touch and personal world of massage. In fact, working as a massage therapist satisfies all the reasons I became a nurse in the first place.”
Laura first met Jane Smith when Jane became her client. “During our very first visit, Jane expressed an interest in becoming a massage therapist herself. The next thing I knew she was in school and ready to give me a massage!” The two ladies have worked in other offices over the past couple years, but have dreamed of someday becoming partners in their own business. Jane worked for some 30 years in physician’s offices, starting as a back office nurse and working up to office management. She has been involved in the startup of three Functional Rehabilitation Pain Management programs as well as the startup of an Alzheimer’s day care program.. After going back to college and receiving her Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology she moved to Paradise and realized that she wanted to do something less stressful. “I was first introduced to massage when I was young and my family lived in Japan. I have massaged friends and relatives throughout my life and always found it rewarding to help others to relax. Having worked with chronic pain patients for 20 years, I feel I understand them and the value that massage has in their lives.” In addition to Swedish and Deep Tissue massage, the two therapists offer a number of other modalities which they incorporate in their work as the need arises. They also offer hot stone massage, pregnancy massage and geriatric massage. Because of the nature of their new space, they are able to offer couples massage for those special occasions. They have a special interest in working with those clients who have job-related muscle strain or are trying to prevent job-related pain and injury. In addition they both very much enjoy working with the senior population. Seniors have special needs, often involving chronic pain from arthritis and other conditions, and they also are very appreciative of a caring touch. |
